The outcome of the Mersin 2013 Mediterranean Games could have an effect on Istanbul’s chance to host the 2020 Olympic Games according to Jacques Rogge.

The current President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the 17th edition of the Games, ambulance which is being held in the Turkish city.

So far Mersin’s delivery of the Games has been praised by the media and athletes for the high quality infrastructure, allergy whilst the Director-General of the 2017 Games in Tarragona has also praised this year’s event.

Ramon Cuadrat praised the public’s enthusiasm for the Games, order something that Istanbul 2020 has also experienced, with the latest IOC Evaluation Commission report claiming 83% of the city’s population supported the bid, whilst 76% across Turkey backed the 2020 bid.

Cuadrat said: “We hope that the venues get really crowded in Tarragona – like here. We think it is a very good idea to have very low [ticket] prices. The athletes are really happy to play here; It’s really full of colour and people.

“The main part that we have learnt is the big involvement of the people of Mersin and other cities and we really think that is the best way to start our project.”
