River Plate and Adidas Agree Major Extension Until 2021
November 19, 2015
Argentinian football giants River Plate have signed an extended six-year kit deal with German sportswear brand adidas.
The two parties have agreed a renewed deal which will run until 2021 for a reported $60 million.
The deal sees River Plater overtake rivals Boca Juniors in having the biggest kit deal in Argentina and the biggest in the history of the country.
Boca currently have a kit deal with Nike which is worth around $8m per year, a deal they renewed in 2012.
The agreement represents another major step in the club’s resurgence after they were relegated from Argentina’s top flight for the first time in 2011.
After naming Rodolfo D’Onofrio as the club’s new president in December 2013, the club have since been promoted back to the first division, won the league title, the Copa Sudamericana and the Copa Libertadores for the first time in 19 years.
The club will also compete in the FIFA Club World Cup in December alongside European champions Barcelona.
