January 31, 2014

Real Madrid’s new stadium will be designed by a group led by a German firm, GMP Architekten, and includes Spanish architects Ribas & Ribas, ABC newspaper reports.

Josep Ribas, an architect at the Catalan firm, is a season ticket holder at FC Barcelona – a fact which proved a stumbling block for some of Real Madrid’s directors according to news website The Local.

ABC says Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is determined to make the club’s new 80,000 seat stadium the best in the world. It is due to be built by 2017 at a cost of £330m.

Perez said: “It’s time to face another challenge, we want to make the Santaigo Bernabeu stadium the best in the world.

“Our commitment is to continue Increasing the heritage of our club, ran thus gain economic strength, so we can continue to lead in a environment of Increasing competition.”
