Media Relations Manager – Crystal Palace

The Media Relations Manager is primarily responsible for coordinating and managing the delivery of the club’s contracted media requirements for the men’s first-team, as well as securing additional media coverage for the club, its staff and players. On a day-to-day basis, the successful candidate will work with our players to ensure the club meets its contractual media activity. The successful candidate will be supported by our Head of Media Relations, and external comms agency as required.

You will be responsible for…

The role requires close liaison with media rights holders (such as Sky, BT, Amazon and international broadcasters), the Premier League, national and local media, as well as internal stakeholders to ensure all media appearances paint the club and its players in a positive light, and meets the needs of media partners.

  • Manage and deliver the Premier League media rights contract, fulfilling the obligations of the playing squad with UK and overseas broadcast rights holders, ensuring compliance with all contractual match week media obligations. For illustrative purposes, this includes pre-match interviews in the days leading up to matches, matchday interviews pre- and post- match, as well as less time sensitive feature-length interviews.
  • Managing and delivering matchday media obligations at all home matches ensuring compliance with matchday protocols. In addition, the Media Relations Manager would be expected to work the majority of away matches, although a rota system is currently in operation with colleagues.
  • Manage and deliver, in conjunction with Premier League Productions, non-match related contractual obligations, such as pre- and mid-season media access days, extended interviews, ‘masterclasses’ and ‘behind-the-scenes’ sessions.
  • Develop strong relationships with key personnel at the Premier League, Premier League Productions, and broadcast partners.
  • Identify and manage pro-active, non-contractual media activity to deliver positive PR for players and the club.
  • Research and produce briefing materials ahead of all media activity for players/interviewees.
  • Discuss media opportunities and requirements with players
  • Ensure new and emerging players are aware of media requirements and expectations
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with the club’s Player Liaison Manager to co-ordinate additional activity, including community and commercial initiatives – using media opportunities to showcase the wider work of the club.
  • Manage day to day media enquiries, and conduct daily media monitoring alongside the club’s appointed media agency, liaising internally and escalating to the Chairman and Executive team as necessary.
  • Work as part of a wider Marketing & Communications team – attending weekly meetings to discuss and share work streams/creative ideas/campaign planning, supporting marketing and club media initiatives.
  • Oversee the Press Office Administrator (part-time role) in managing the media operations on matchdays, the PL media accreditation system and be responsible for logistics for the manager’s pre-match press conferences. 
  • Lead on media management for the Women’s team at key points of the season. Please note the Media Relations Manager is not required to attend Women’s or Academy matchdays.
  • Distribute club announcements / releases to media database and monitor the media enquiries email account.

  • Orchestrate development of video content for F1 digital platforms, including F1.com/F1 App, F1 social channels and branded content, select F1TV content.

  • Working within the marketing & new business department to ensure the agencys pillar marketing activity – the Fan Intelligence Index – is integrated and leveraged throughout every piece of marketing and comms activity
  • Maintain Ear to the Grounds tone of voice across all communication channels – managing external stakeholders on a day to day basis to deliver PR, Digital and Web activity
  • Project manage the production, delivery and promotion of the agencys pillar marketing piece – the Fan Intelligence Index – as well as other marketing collateral and comms
  • Proactively grow Ear to the Grounds social presence and nurture the growing community of prospects, journalists and fans online – driving conversation and identifying potential advocates and opportunities.
  • Work with internal stakeholders across Client Services and Creative to deliver the agencys award process
  • Support the New Business function of the team with the creation of specific marketing collateral and content

  • A minimum of three years experience working within an agency or brand side
  • Digital and / or social experience for a business as a must
  • Knowledge of Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube channel. Interest in TikTok and new emerging channels would be a plus.

Partner Communications Executive – McLaren Racing

You’ll be based at our McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, but there may be some international travel to events on occasion. You’ll be reporting into the Partner Communications Manager but need to build strong relationships with people across both the wider Communications team and Marketing team. There may be some flexibility with working hours and travel required to fulfil this role effectively.

Principal Accountabilities:You’ll be the backbone of the Communications team, primarily supporting McLaren Racing’s Partner Communications, including but not limited to:

  • Supporting and managing the day-to-day running of the Comms team’s operations and activities, with specific focus on the Partner Communications function
  • Responsibility for Partner Communications press release distribution and support on wider integrated communications campaigns
  • Supporting on collaborative media opportunities with McLaren Racing partners from proactive and reactive sources
  • To maintain the Partner Communications tracking and reporting systems
  • Developing strong working relationships with McLaren’s partner leads, working closely to review partner content, activity planning and talent briefings
  • Assisting in the creation of quarterly, monthly and flash reports – with focus on the Partner Comms results
  • Conduct regular coverage monitoring of the McLaren Racing partner network
  • To oversee, manage and develop the range of comms tools required for general running of the press office, including press release distribution systems, image libraries, online media centre, content plans and file sharing platforms
  • Creating Daily News Rounds-Ups 
  • Prepare briefing material for media activity and engagements that include McLaren Racing spokespeople 
  • Management of the McLaren Media Centre and StoryStream platform – content curation, upload and registrations
  • Work effectively with the wider communications team to create integrated external and internal opportunities to disseminate narratives around McLaren’s sustainability and corporate communications strategy
  • To effectively and professionally organise, oversee and execute photography, filming and media opportunities within McLaren Technology Centre, and work with key stakeholders and management across the company to result in positive media coverage for McLaren Racing
  • To produce high-quality media-facing written material in the form of press releases, briefing documents, website copy, marketing collateral and media correspondence where required, of a high quality and in a format that can be used across digital and traditional media platforms, and act as first point of contact for copy proofing and editing
  • To be a proactive liaison within the wider Comms team as well as Digital, Partnerships, Brand Experience and Brand Creative departments in relation to partner activity, media events and comms and digital campaigns where appropriate
