Overview

The Premier League’s communications team is looking for a Senior Communications Manager to support the wide-ranging operations of the Communications Department. The right candidate will be motivated, organised and able to work in a fast-paced environment. The candidate should have a strong background in communications.

The role will require the candidate to work with the relevant Premier League departments, clubs and external stakeholders to help promote the League, responding to media and proactive communications planning.

We have a wide variety of responsibilities. These include organising the competition and its Rule Book as well as managing the centralised broadcast and commercial rights. The work we do in conjunction with the Clubs also goes far beyond the 90 minutes. We support and provide a framework for youth development, we protect the organisation’s intellectual property, support the wider game and community programmes, undertake international development work and liaise with governing bodies and other leagues.

Our hybrid-working system also allows you some variety on your place of work, offering you the chance to work from home on some days each week. Where possible, you will attend the office or site visits three days a week. All staff liaise closely with their line manager to manage their time appropriately and according to their work and team requirements.

The role

  • Day-to-day management of the press office function within the communications department
  • Acting as one of the main contacts for journalists, delivering timely and accurate responses according to the daily news agenda with particular responsibility for football media
  • Working with senior colleagues across various departments, devising and delivering media handling strategies and ensuring media messaging is aligned with the Premier League’s policy positions. Departments include but not limited to Commercial, Media, Legal and Policy
  • Working closely with the Director of News and Corporate Communications, Director of Public Relations and key Premier League departments to identify media opportunities to promote the Premier League
  • Assist and support the Premier League and Clubs on all communications needs – from news handling to preparing statements, briefs, media releases and organising media events
  • Work with the communications team in ensuring internal communications materials are of a high standard and that briefing documents are regularly reviewed

Requirements for the role

  • Extensive experience working in communications and the media industry
  • Proven track record in developing and delivering world-class media handling and communications strategies
  • Excellent understanding of football, the industry and an appreciation of the Premier League’s structure, policies, issues and context in the industry
  • Excellent writing ability
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Responsive and accurate with the ability to work to short deadlines and under pressure
  • Good interpersonal skills and confidence to deal with senior internal and external figures in a professional manner
  • Availability for out of hours work as required, in accordance with our flexi-working guidelines
