Our Story
Manchester City Women is an English football club initially founded by City in the Community in 1988. Relaunched by a formal partnership with Manchester City FC, MCWFC entered the FA Women’s Super League and professionalised in 2014. Success has followed in not only the FAWSL but also the Women’s FA Cup and Continental Tyres League Cup, while the team has regularly competed in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The team plays its home fixtures at Joie Stadium, a 7,000 capacity arena. The stadium sits on the wider Etihad Campus, which also encompasses the City Football Academy, a state-of-the-art training and development facility that houses its women’s, men’s and academy teams.

Our Written Content team bring Manchester City stories to life, allowing fans across the world an insight into what goes on inside our club every single day. With a particular focus on our Women’s output, this role within our editorial team requires a strong knowledge of City’s professional history and the wider WSL, as well as an enthusiasm to celebrate our players’ achievements and elevate their profiles both on and off the pitch.
As a Journalist, you’ll be a custodian of our history, using the power of football and journalism to engage with supporters across our digital platforms, with high-quality news and feature writing at the heart of our offering. A pro-active self-starter, you’ll be joining an inclusive team within a fast-paced environment. Driven by collaborative working and a passion for storytelling, you’ll be a key player in delivering a best-in-class product.
This is Your City
Your Impact
1. Assist the Head of Editorial and Managing Editors in all daily tasks.
2. Cover live matches, particularly for our women’s team but also across men, EDS and U18s, producing match reports, live blogs, interviews and match galleries. Ability to write accurately under pressure is vital.
3. Able to provide high quality written copy for web/app, digital magazine and matchday programmes
4. Play an important role in producing content around Women’s team milestones and anniversaries.
5. Assist with content optimisation, maintaining high standard of website hygiene and best practice in SEO.
6. Help maintain excellent stats, records and milestones database, which help service video, social and design teams.
7. Create and execute new content ideas, always looking to find innovative strands that challenge our readership.
What we are looking for
Essential
- Professional qualification in journalism and at least one year of experience on fast-paced news desk.
- Ability to develop contacts with former Manchester City players/managers/staff.
- Experience using CMS
- Excellent knowledge of Manchester City men, women, EDS and U18s.
Desirable
- Full Driving License
- Experience in conducting interviews and presenting on camera.
