Macesport Appointed by Sir Bobby Robson Charity

September 23, 2011

The Sir Bobby Robson Breakthrough Auction and Ball have appointed specialist sports communications agency Macesport to handle press and public relations activity.

A unique auction and ball in memory of the former England football manager and breast cancer campaigner Sally Balch aims to raise £250,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

A galaxy of football and sporting stars have pledged their support for the activities – with Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho donating his FIFA Ballon D’Or World Coach of the Year award.

Macesport managing director Paul Mace said: “Sir Bobby is one of the most respected, revered and appreciated figures in world football.

“Anyone who met him could not have failed to have been touched by his unstinting enthusiasm and passion for football and life in general.

Sally Balch was a founding member of the Breakthrough Suffolk group and died of breast cancer in 2004. Sir Bobby died of cancer in 2009 following a long fight with the disease.

Gina Long, event founder and chair of Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s West Suffolk group, said: “We all loved Sally and Sir Bobby and so we wanted to hold an event to remember them by.

“This auction and ball is a spectacular way to raise money for the causes they were so passionate about.”
