Lord Coe Urges British Workers to Cash in on London 2012 Success
July 11, 2013
Lord Coe has backed a new initiative by the Sported foundation and urged British workers to cash in on the success of London 2012.
With the year anniversary of the Olympic Games fast approaching, symptoms Coe joined organisers and stakeholders in the capital to launch a bid to raise £1m ($1.5m) to help young people improve their lives through sport.
The ‘Keep the Promise’ initiative created by the Sported foundation asks employees or large organisations and businesses to donate £20.12 or £2.12 through company payrolls.
Coe said: “Sported is a charity that has fundamentally understood the importance of not only creating opportunities for young people to play sport but also creating the infrastructures around them with people who are experienced mentors.”
Sir Keith Mills, who founded Sported in 2008, is heading the campaign and he is hoping the initiative will allow greater access to sports.
Mills said: “For many young people across the United Kingdom access to sport is not easy and they are therefore missing out on the wonderful and positive things that sport brings to us.
“In disadvantaged communities sport creates opportunities for people to develop self-respect, confidence and social skills that will help them to make the most of their potential.”
