LeBron James Endorses Samsung’s Galaxy Note II
November 2, 2012
Miami Heat superstar LeBron James is to promote the new Galaxy Note II as Samsung’s latest celebrity spokesman.
James “wanted something unique” in his nextsmartphone, Samsung USA’s promotional copy informs us on a YouTube video of the hoops star’s current Galaxy Note II spot.
The 27-year-old three-time NBA Most Valuable Player wanted “something that would turn heads but could also make day-to-day tasks effortless,” the promo material continues. “Something that had all the functional capabilities of a smartphone and all the creative elements of a tablet. With its fine-tuned S Pen, enhanced multitasking functions, and beautiful 5.5-inch Super Amoled screen, the Galaxy Note II was the best of both.”
The vastness of that 5.5-inch, 1,280-by-720-pixel, Super AMOLED capacitivetouch screen is the key selling point for the Galaxy Note II, larger by an inch in height than even the bulk of the “big” smartphones that have been showing up of late, including Apple’s new iPhone 5. But as TechCrunch noted, the so-called “phablet” looks downright “normal-sized” in the 6-foot-9 basketballer’s huge hands.
In the current ad for Samsung, we get a peek at a “day in the life” of the NBA’s top dog as James plays around on the Galaxy Note II with his family at breakfast, receives an encouraging text from Magic Johnson, video chats with young fans, and watches footage of a spectacular dunk with pals in the barbershop where his famously receding hairline is maintenanced by laughing staff.
