FIBA broadcast deals with ProSiebenSat.1 and Deutsche Telekom provide boost for fans in Germany

FIBA has struck two new exciting broadcast agreements with ProSiebenSat.1 and Deutsche Telekom, which will significantly increase both the quality and quantity of broadcast distribution of FIBA’s major events in Germany.
The deals are highly significant, particularly with the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 due to be hosted in the heart of Berlin next year and Germany approaching the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 as defending champions.
The new four-year broadcasting cycle tips off in November 2025 with the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers and will conclude with the FIBA EuroBasket 2029.
ProSiebenSat.1 as free-to-air partner will broadcast live all games of the German national teams in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026, FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2027 and 2029, and FIBA EuroBasket 2029 – as well as certain games from the Men’s and Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2028.
The Final, along with selected games from the Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals of each event, will also be broadcast across the ProSieben, Sat.1 or ProSieben Maxx services – three of the most popular linear television channels in the German market. ProSiebenSat.1 is Europe’s second-largest TV group in terms of TV home penetration and AVOD (Advertising Video On Demand) service Joyn will also stream all games live to ensure that the action can reach the broadest audience possible.
Meanwhile, long-term partner of FIBA, Deutsche Telekom, has been awarded rights to broadcast all games from FIBA global and European events. In particular, all German games from the various qualifier events will be live and exclusive on Deutsche Telekom Magenta TV and MagentaSport services.
In addition to acquiring rights to all games from the major FIBA events, Magenta TV will also feature comprehensive coverage of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifiers, EuroBasket 2029 Qualifiers, Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2028 and the FIBA U17 and U19 Basketball World Cups.
Deutsche Telekom will also manage host broadcast production for Qualifier games played in Germany. Deutsche Telekom has a reputation for excellence in basketball broadcasting, with their coverage of Germany’s victory at FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 awarded ‘Best Sports Program’ at the 2024 German Television Awards.
These arrangements, negotiated by FIBA Media – the strategic partnership between FIBA and DAZN, will ensure that FIBA basketball is brought to the biggest possible audience in Germany and with a breadth of coverage previously unseen in the market.
Frank Leenders, Director General of FIBA Media and Marketing Services, commented: “We are delighted to build on our strong partnership with Deutsche Telekom and add significant visibility in Germany with the commitment of ProSiebenSat.1. This combination will further enhance the quality of the FIBA experience for fans in Germany.
“There is a lot of excitement and interest around both German national teams who have put their name up in lights during recent times. The men’s team as reigning FIBA Basketball World Cup champions and the women’s team having made history at Paris 2024 when taking their first Olympic steps. When you also factor in the hosting of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 in Berlin, there’s a lot more to look forward to for fans.”
Henrik Pabst, Chief Content Officer of ProSiebenSat.1, said: “With this top-class acquisition of rights, we are further expanding our attractive sports portfolio across all platforms. Basketball is inspiring more and more people in this country – not least because of the great successes of German basketball players. That’s why we are strengthening our commitment here with the major tournaments of the national teams.”
“We are continuing a very strong, long-standing partnership with FIBA since 2015, now with an even larger rights package. Over the past ten years, MagentaSport and MagentaTV have consistently improved their live coverage, helping basketball gain much greater popularity in Germany. The new agreement through 2029 provides a high degree of reliability for our partners, as well as for fans and viewers: the best live basketball coverage will continue to be available on MagentaTV and MagentaSport in the long term. Our main focus is on the German national teams. But we’ve also seen growing interest in international matchups in the best competitions,” says Dorothea Jacob, VP Proposition & Content, MagentaTV.
