The CEO of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race has said the race is looking for a title sponsor and talks with a company have been held.

In an exclusive interview with iSportconnect, allergy William Ward, CEO of Clipper Ventures, who helped create the race in 1995, admitted he hoped to see a title sponsor in future races.

Speaking exclusively to iSportconnect, Ward said: “We would not object to a title sponsor now and in fact we have looked at that with a company and hopefully that will happen for future races.”

The first race set sail in 1996 with the aim of bringing sailing enthusiasts and world-class trainers together on a boat that would take in much of the world on the tour.

Each boat is sponsored, whether this is by a company or country and Ward also said that in the future he wanted to ensure partners were signed up for longer periods.

“We want to expand on the individual boat sponsorships, to make sure they are signed up earlier and for longer periods, so it is not just a one race deal,” said Ward.

“That does not allow you the time to start activating early enough.”

The 2013 edition of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race starts in London on September 1st and will return in July 2014.

The race will cover 40,000 miles and visit 14 ports on six continents.
