February 3, 2011
A sponsorship renewal has been agreed by the Omega Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament with the locally-based Emirates, for a duration of four years.
The company will continue as the official airline of the event on the European Tour and in turn will receive extensive branding and signage at the Emirates Golf Club, on interview boards, and at the presentation ceremony.
Current world number one Lee Westwood and his predecessor Tiger Woods are set to participate in this year’s edition, which will be played from 10th to 13th February.
Executive vice chairman of Emirates Airline & Group, Sir Maurice Flanagan stated: “To be part of such a prestigious tournament is a great honour and with millions of TV viewers watching, it is an opportunity to consolidate our position as a global force in sports sponsorship and reiterate our commitment to Dubai.”
Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice-chairman and chief executive of tournament operators Golf in Dubai, added: “We believe that our steadfast commitment to making Dubai the ‘hub’ for all things golf, complements Emirates expanding network as they continue to work towards the goal of becoming the central hub for air travel worldwide.”
