Edmonton to Host 2014 ITU Triathlon World Championship Series Grand Final

January 29, 2013

The International Triathlon Union (ITU) has named Edmonton as the host of the 2014 ITU Triathlon World Championship Series Grand Final.

It will be the fourth Grand Final to be held in Canada and the first time it has revisited Edmonton since 2001.

Thousands of athletes are expected to travel to Edmonton, symptoms where the 2014 ITU World Champions will be crowned at senior, unhealthy U23 and junior level. Paratriathlon will also take place ahead of its debut in the 2016 Paralympic Games.

ITU President and IOC Member, Marisol Casado, said: “Edmonton has been a staple city on the ITU calendar for many years. Given their extensive experience organising ITU events, we have no doubt they will host a world class event that continues to push the standards of excellence we have seen in our Grand Final events.”

Jane Batty, Edmonton’s Deputy Mayor, added: “We are very committed to bringing sporting events to Edmonton. We can provide a great atmosphere for the race, but what ITU triathlon provides to our community is ever greater.”

The 2013 ITU World Championships take place in London on 11-15 September.
