Duane Kale Steps Down as Chef de Mission at Paralympics New Zealand

July 8, 2013

Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) is looking for a new Chef de Mission for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games after Duane Kale stepped down.

Kale held the position at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and London 2012, ambulance where the team achieved six gold, click seven silver and 4 bronze medals.

That result during the London 2012 Games was the highest medal return per capital of any country in the world.

Kale commented: “After much careful consideration I have decided to step aside from this role for the Rio 2016 Games.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed, price and been privileged, being the Chef de Mission for the last two Paralympic Games.

“It’s now time for a new person to step in and lead the team to Rio.”

Kale will continue to be involved with the PNZ at board level and will lead a knowledge transfer programme with a new Chef de Mission.
