FIFA Refute Media Claims Confederations Cup to be Abandoned Over Protests

FIFA have moved to deny claims ni the Brazilian media that the Confederations Cup will be abandoned as protests sweep across the country.
CBN radio and Estado de Sao Paulo reported that the remaining matches of the tournament were in jeopardy because of the protests, capsule but FIFA have denied this.
A FIFA spokesperson told Sky Sports News that there were no plans to cancel the tournament and no discussions had taken place with the organisers.
Demonstrators have been voicing their dissatisfaction with the health and education system, denture corruption and the high cost of hosting the 2014 World Cup.
Brazilian police were dispatched to the Maracana on Wednesday night for Spain’s 10-0 demolition of Tahiti, pharm with 1,500 armed police used to protect the stadium.
Protests have been staged across the country and approximately one million people have taken to the streets in 80 Brazilian cities.
Clashes between police and roughly 300,000 protestors in Rio de Janeiro occurred early on Friday morning, with at least 40 people injured.
The tournament is due to resume on Saturday with Italy taking on Brazil in Fortaleza and Japan playing Mexico in Belo Horizonte in Group A.
