Companies Secure UEFA Media Rights Deal in Asian Markets

There has been a flurry of deals in Asia for the media rights of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
The most notable was Ten Sports, the all sports channel from Taj Television, extending its media right’s agreement for the Uefa Champions League and Uefa Europa League for a three year period from 2012-15 in the sub-continent.
Ten Sports will exploit the rights via television, internet and mobile platforms.
Ten Sports has acquired the rights across all broadcast platforms for the Indian sub-continent, which includes India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Ten Sports will show at least four games live per match week, as well as delayed coverage and highlights for both club competitions. Live and delayed broadcasts of the matches will be available on Ten Sports and Ten Action+, with highlights being broadcast on Ten Sports.
Meanwhile, pay television operator Astro has pipped incumbent rights holder ESPN Star Sports to bag the exclusive media rights deal for the 2012-15 Uefa Champions League and Uefa Europa League in Malaysia and Brunei markets. Astro will exploit the rights across its Astro SuperSport pay platform throughout the territories.
Football fans in Malaysia and Brunei will be able to see live at least six Uefa Champions League and at least four Uefa Europa League matches per match week, as well as highlights and delayed match coverage for both competitions each week.
In Myanmar, S Media has been granted the media rights to the Uefa Champions League and the Uefa Europa League for 2012-15 period.
S Media will broadcast live at least six matches per match week on its pay television channels, as well as highlights and delayed coverage, in respect of both the Uefa Champions League and the Uefa Europa League.
