BBVA Bancomer Becomes Title Sponsor of Mexico’s La Liga MX
July 16, 2013
BBVA Bancomer today announced its title sponsorship of La Liga MX, which will now be known as Liga BBVA Bancomer.
This partnership is an effort by the financial institution to reinforce its commitment to sports and increase exposure for La Liga Bancomer and Mexican soccer.
The Liga BBVA Bancomer sponsorship is a strategic long-term agreement with the Mexican soccer league. La Liga MX has more than 75 million followers in Mexico and is also followed in the United States, Central and South America, Europe and recently Africa and Asia.
Vicente Rodero, country manager of BBVA in Mexico, said: “The BBVA Group has traditionally been linked to the sports world,” Rodero said. “Since 2008, it has been the main sponsor of Liga BBVA in Spain and is known as the Bank of Soccer. BBVA Bancomer is now closer to its customers through a sport that is specially loved in Mexico. We also share the same values with La Liga — teamwork, discipline, consistency, drive, competitiveness, passion and fair play.”
“Mexico is a great country and BBVA Bancomer wants to have an active role in its development,” he added. “The agreement signed today is a shared goal among us, La Liga, its players and fans to make this league a benchmark of sports so that it can continue to attract the best players, to better unify the 18 clubs that are part of this league, and, above all, to promote Mexico’s good image in other geographies.”
Decio de Maria, executive president of La Liga MX, said: “It is a great honor to welcome BBVA Bancomer to the Liga MX family because we are both institutions that share the same goals and values: loyalty, sportsmanship, professionalism, effort, cooperation and promoting our vision of the future. This alliance with the Bank of Soccer aligns with Liga MX’s transformation and modernization plans.”
