The venue for the final of this summer's FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Soccer City Stadium, is to retain its name until the High Court makes a decision on its naming rights.

Stadium Management SA is the stadium's management company and its sales and marketing manager, Brescia Bianco-Badenhorst, said the company has decided to refer to the Soweto stadium as Soccer City until 3 August, when the High Court in Johnnesburg is expected to rule on who owns the naming rights.

Bianco-Badenhorst said: "In the interim [until the court decision], we intend to use the name 'Soccer City', when referring to the stadium."

It was called FNB Stadium before the World Cup, referring to the main sponsor, First National Bank, but was changed to Soccer City as FIFA did not want corporate brand names on any of the World Cup stadiums.
