Overview:

Cricket is New Zealand’s premier summer sport with the vision to be a game for all New Zealanders, a game for life. Canterbury Cricket is responsible for delivering this vision in the Canterbury region, which is the largest region geographically in New Zealand and home to around 22,000 players.

Canterbury Cricket manages all Canterbury's professional cricket teams including the Canterbury Mens, Canterbury Magicians and Canterbury Kings teams. In addition Canterbury Cricket also manages all talent pathways, male and female, and oversees all grassroots cricket participation in the region.

Reporting to the Board of Canterbury Cricket, via the Chairperson, the Chief Executive Officer will lead Canterbury Cricket with the purpose of inspiring through the game, embodying courage, respect and integrity.

Responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of the strategic and operational plans, the CEO must successfully balance the growth and welfare of the game with sound financial management, and build strong and vibrant relationships with the member associations, players, supporters, volunteers, media, commercial partners and New Zealand Cricket.

To be considered for this role you will need to possess leadership and management experience gained within a significant sporting or commercial organisation, or other relevant context, with a successful track record in driving positive change with a focus on culture and people. You might already have a strong background as a CEO or are a senior manager in a like-sized organisation ready for the next step into this leadership role. Well-developed strategic, financial and commercial acumen will be necessary, ideally supported by a qualification in business, sports management, or other appropriate discipline.

You will be energetic and entrepreneurial, with the ability to create and/or develop a brand and to grow both core and commercial revenues. The role requires a dynamic leader with a genuine regard for people and an ability to swiftly build relationships and credibility with a diverse range of stakeholders, preferably within a publicly visible environment.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and future-focused leader to share in developing and achieving the future vision and direction of an exciting organisation. Experience in the management of a not-for-profit organisation would be highly regarded, as would an understanding and enjoyment of cricket at all levels.
