Former Mercedes technical boss Paddy Lowe has joined Williams as Chief Technical Officer.
The 54-year-old, who was instrumental in Mercedes' run of three successive Driver's and Constructor's Championship wins, has long been tipped to make the move to Williams.
He left Mercedes in January, having previously been placed on gardening leave by Mercedes this winter after a difference of opinion with F1 boss Toto Wolff about the future direction of the team.
Lowe will take responsibility for the technical side of the business, and will take a position on the board of directors and an undisclosed shareholding in the company.
Lowe's first F1 role came at Williams in 1987, since when he has taken in roles with McLaren and Mercedes.
Lowe said: "I've always had a deep respect for Williams - my first team in Formula 1. It is a huge honour to return in this leadership position and to have the opportunity to become a shareholder. I am extremely motivated to play my part in bringing success back to the team."
